Bishop Kwabena Albert Rainier Cheeks

In the summer of 2007 Bishop Cheeks began talking to Rev. Darryl! about a vision for a new organization that would work to enhance the lives of people in the community. Bishop envisioned a community based organization, organized around the spiritual principles of Inner Light Ministries with emphasis on how these principles could be put to use for all people regardless of their religious affiliation. The vision was one of expansion and inclusion seeking to change lives.

Bishop Cheeks had founded Us Helping Us, People Into Living in 1985 during the onset of the HIV epidemic and Rev. Darryl! had been working across the country in nonprofits and community based organizations. They agreed that what was needed were new ways to engage the health and wellness in our communities separate from the work of the church but built on similar principles. Bishop Cheeks and Rev. Darryl! shared this vision, seeking ways to enhance the quality of life of people, and with leadership and members from Inner Light Ministries and the community in 2010 brought into being a new organization that would promote healthy living, holistic approaches to change our way of life.
